New Jersey man prostituted women along East Coast, police say

September 09, 2011|By Steve Kilar, The Baltimore Sun
A New Jersey man was arrested Thursday in Glen Burnie on charges of human trafficking and prostitution, police said.
Uzodimma Nnamdi Oguh, 32, transported women along the East Coast to work as prostitutes, Maryland State Police said in a statement Friday. Police said they searched a Baltimore hotel where they said Oguh was running the business locally.
Oguh has been charged with six counts of human trafficking, three counts of prostitution, one count of motor vehicle theft and other related criminal charges, police said. He remained Friday at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center on $250,000 bond.
About three weeks ago, state troopers responded to a crash between a car and a commuter bus on northbound Interstate 295 near Interstate 695 in Anne Arundel County, according to the police statement.
The car was stolen and was driven by a 21-year-old woman who claimed that Oguh was her boyfriend, that he had assaulted her and that she had received the car from him, police said.
Earlier that day, police had arrested Oguh for second-degree assault and detained him.
An investigation following the car crash revealed Oguh's activities, police said.
